When we need to see inside a pet we can use our digital radiographs (x-rays) to look at the heart and lungs, the abdomen, and especially the bones. Ultrasound is our other imaging modality and allows us to look at the abdominal organs in much greater detail. Ultrasound is also useful for identifying fluid in the abdomen or chest, and helping us obtain diagnostic samples.
At Animal Hospital In Fairfield, we offer x-rays. If ultrasound or advanced imaging is recommended for your pet, we will refer you to a trusted specialist. If a specialist’s opinion is needed, we can send radiographs electronically to a group of radiology specialists in Sacramento. They will read the images for us and provide their expert opinion within 24 hours. Ultrasounds require a specialist which can typically be scheduled within 1-2 business days.
